They set up a small table with one of my displays that I designed and put it on the back of the table then set out an assortment of Halloween ornaments for me to sign. Various buyers from all over the country who come to Atlanta to purchase products for their stores would stop by to meet me. The idea of the signing is to introduce the artist to the buyers and make them aware of the new line that they have licensed... encourage sales and awareness of the new products.
Sometimes they would ask me to sign the ornament to someone...like their son or daughter and on the back of this little skeleton guy, there wasn't a lot of room for my name, let alone the date and their name as well, but I did the best I could. It was a lot of fun to meet people from all over the country! I enjoyed hearing about their stores, where they were from and what items they carried, what sold well for them and what didn't. It was really invaluable information as a designer to hear first hand about their shops and their customers.
Here I am with some of the products from the "Dem Bones" collection in the Gallerie ll section of the showroom. Signings are a great way to market the new products, to promote the designer of the collection while giving the buyers and opportunity to meet with you, and to just generally promote the sales of the new products with a bit of buzz! I really enjoyed this opportunity and hope next year at the show to do it again!
